Square Pineapples?

materials:
size '5' hook
size '10' crochet cotton
156 (plus extra) glass 'E' beads
7 inch metal hoop (optional)
 

notes:
I always string on extra beads in case I miscount or if a bead breaks.
beaded Ch: draw up a bead, yo, draw through loop on hook
 

pattern:
Rnds 1-4: work 4 rounds of a traditional granny square
Rnd 5: sc, (ch 6, in corner ch-sp (9 dc), ch 6, sc in middle sp) around, ch 6, join w/ sl st to first sc
Rnd 6: sl st in next 6 ch, and in 1st dc, ch 4, dc between 1st and 2nd dc in previous row, * ch 1, dc between all dc in group, ch 1, dc in last dc, ch 8, * dc in next dc, dc between 1st and 2nd dc, ch 1, dc between all dc in group, ch 1, dc in last dc, ch 8, rep from * 2x, join w/ sl st to 3rd beg ch
Rnd 7: finish all 4 pineapples!
1st pineapple
Row 1: sc in 1st ch-sp, (ch 4, sc) in ea ch-sp across, Rows 2-7: turn, sl st in next ch, sc in 1st ch loop, (ch 4, sc) in ea ch-loop across, after last row, finish off
2, 3, 4 pineapples
join w/ sc to 1st ch loop, complete same as first pineapple
Rnd 8: join w/ sc to end ch-lp of 2nd row of any pineapple, * 2 beaded ch, sc, in next ch-loop up around pineapple to last ch-loop in same row as joining sc, ch 8, sc in end ch-loop of 2nd row of next pineapple, rep from * around, last ch 8 - join w/ sl st to 1st joining sc, do not finish off
Rnd 9: insert scallops!
1st scallop
sl st in next 2 beaded ch, turn, ch 4, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-8 below, ch 4, join w/ sl st to sc above 1st 2 beaded ch, sl st in next 2 beaded ch, sl st in next sc, turn ch 2, sc in ch-4 sp, 9 dc in ch-2 sp, sc in ch-4 sp, ch 2 join w/ sl st to sc above next 2 beaded ch turn dc in sc, (ch 1, dc) in each dc across, and in last sc, turn sc in 1st, dc, (beaded ch, sc) in ea ch-sp across, sc in last dc, finish off (11 beads on scallop)
2, 3, 4 scallop
join w/ sc to next pineapple in sc above 1st 2 beaded ch, finish same as first scallop [ch, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-8 below, etc]

finish off
weave in ends

Block as necessary to keep shape.

may be mounted in metal hoop to use as a suncatcher
