materials:

Size 10 crochet cotton
Size “0” (zero) hook
 

special instructions:

no chain single crochet – insert hook in same loop previous stitch is worked in, draw up a loop (this forms your foundation chain), yarn over, pull through loop, yarn over, pull through both loops on hook

patterns:

chain 8, join with slip stitch to form ring
Rnd 1: chain 3, * (double crochet, treble crochet, chain 2, treble crochet, double crochet) in ring, double crochet in ring, repeat from * around omitting last double crochet in 5th repeat, slip stitch in 3rd beginning chain; 5 chain-spaces
Rnd 2: slip stitch in next 2 stitches, (2 single crochet, chain 2, 2 single crochet) in chain-space, [slip stitch in each stitch to next chain-space, (2 single crochet, chain 2, 2 single crochet) in chain-space)] around, slip stitch in next 2 stitches, slip stitch to finish off in next stitch; 5 chain-spaces
Rnd 3: join with single crochet to any chain-space, 8 no chain single crochet, * single crochet in next chain-space, 8 no chain single crochet, repeat from * around, join with slip stitch to starting single crochet; 45 single crochet
Rnd 4: join with double crochet in 4th stitch of any no chain series, 3 more double crochet in same stitch, 4 double crochet in next stitch, chain 8, * 4 double crochet in 4th stitch of next no chain series, 4 double crochet in next stitch, chain 8, repeat from * around, join with slip stitch to starting double crochet
Rnd 5:
1st 5 pineapples
1st pineapples: chain 4, (double crochet, chain 1) between each double crochet, double crochet in last double crochet, turn, single crochet in 1st chain-space, (chain 3, single crochet) in each chain-space across, * turn, slip stitch in 1st chain, single crochet in chain-space, (chain 3, single crochet) in each chain-space across, repeat from * until there is only 1 chain-space when you’ve completed your row.
Finish off
2nd – 5th pineapples: join with double crochet to first double crochet of next double crochet group, (chain 1, double crochet) between each double crochet and in last double crochet, turn, single crochet in 1st chain-space, complete same as 1st pineapple
Rnd 6:
next 5 pineapples
in last loop of 1st row of chain-loops on any pineapple, join with single crochet, 8 double crochet in chain-8 loop from Rnd 4, single crochet in 1st loop of 1st row of chain-loops on next pineapple, chain 3, single crochet in next chain-loop up the side of the completed pineapple, turn, (double crochet, chain 1) between each double crochet- including between 1st single crochet and beginning chain, omitting chain after last double crochet, single crochet in 1st unused chain-loop on completed pineapple, turn, single crochet in chain-space, (chain 3, single crochet) in each chain-space across, finish as with all other pineapples
next 4 pineapples completed in same manner; 10 pineapples total
Rnd 7: join with single crochet to top of any pineapple, 12 no chain single crochet, * single crochet in top of next pineapple, 12 no chain single crochet, repeat from * around, join with slip stitch to starting single crochet
Rnd 8: slip stitch in next stitch, chain 4, * double crochet in next stitch, (chain 1, double crochet) in each no chain single crochet, skip single crochet in top of pineapple, repeat from * around, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain
Finish off.
Weave in ends.
Block to keep shape.

* Hilo, pronounce hee-low, is a smaller variety of pineapple, since this doily utilizes small pineapples to form a star, I thought this was a very appropriate name when Lisa suggested it.
