Airy Granny Square

materials:

any color yarn
any size hook

notes:

--to those more experienced with granny squares, this square is worked the same as a regular granny square, except that the middle double crochet of each group is replaced with a chain stitch
--to work corner: skip next chain space, in next chain space (double crochet, chain 1) 3 times, double crochet in same space

pattern:

chain 6, join with slip stitch to form ring, slip stitch in ring (optional)
Rnd 1: chain 4, (double crochet, chain 1) 7 times in ring, join to 3rd beginning chain; 8 chain-spaces
Rnd 2: chain 3, work corner 3 times, skip next chain-space, (double crochet, chain 1) 3 times in next chain-space, join to 3rd beginning chain
Rnd 3: slip stitch in space, chain 4, double crochet in same space, [work corner, skip next double crochet, (double crochet, chain 1, double crochet) between next 2 double crochet] 3 times, work corner, slip stitch in 3rd beginning chain
Rnd 4: chain 3, [between each side by side pair of double crochet (no chain in between), double crochet, chain 1, double crochet, repeat to corner, work corner] 4 times, (double crochet, chain 1, double crochet) bet each pair of adjacent double crochet to space with beginning chain, (double crochet, chain 1) in this space, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain
Rnd 5: slip stitch after beginning chain (before next double crochet) chain 4, double crochet in same space work same as Rnd 4 around, at beginning chain-join to beginning chain with slip stitch after last double crochet-chain 1-double crochet group
Repeat Rnds. 4 & 5 until square is desired size
Finish off
Weave in ends.
