size 0 (zero) hook

notes:
to work shell: (3 double crochet, chain 1, 3 double crochet) in same stitch

to work no-chain single crochet: draw up a loop in same space as previous stitch (this forms your chain stitch), yarn over and draw through 1st loop on hook (this is same as drawing up the first loop of a single crochet), yarn over and draw through both loops (this finishes your stitch)
- consecutive no-chain single crochet are started by inserting your hook in the first loop draw up for the previous stitch

pattern:

chain 10, join with slip stitch to form ring
Rnd 1: chain 4, (double crochet in ring, chain) 23 times, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain; 24 chain-1 spaces
Rnd 2: slip stitch in 1st chain-space, chain 4, (double crochet, chain 1) in each chain-space around, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain; 24 chain-1 spaces
Rnd 3: slip stitch in 1st chain-space, chain 3, 2 double crochet in same chain-space, 3 double crochet in each chain-space around, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain; 72 double crochet
Rnd 4-6: slip stitch between 1st & 2nd double crochet, chain 3, double crochet between every stitch around, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain; 72 double crochet
Rnd 7: slip stitch between 1st & 2nd double crochet, chain 4, (double crochet, chain 1) between every stitch around, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain; 72 chain-space
Rnd 8 & 9: slip stitch in 1st chain-space, chain 4, (double crochet, chain 1) in each chain-space around, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain; 72 chain-space
Rnd 10: slip stitch in 1st chain-space, chain 3, double crochet in same space, 2 double crochet in each chain-space around, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain; 144 chain-space
Rnd 11: slip stitch in next double crochet, slip stitch between that double crochet and next, chain 5, [double crochet between every other pair of stitches (each double crochet in this Rnd will line up with a double crochet in Rnd 9), chain 2] around, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain; 72 chain-spaces
Rnd 12: slip stitch in 1st chain-space, chain 3, 2 double crochet in same chain-space, 3 double crochet in each chain-space around, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain; 216 stitches
Rnd 13: chain 1 *single crochet in next double crochet, skip 2 double crochet, work shell in next double crochet, skip 2 double crochet, rep from * around, join with slip stitch to 1st single crochet; 36 shells
Rnd 14: slip stitch in next 3 double crochet, chain 1, single crochet in chain-space, (5 no-chain single crochet, single crochet in next chain-space) around, on last rep only - join with slip stitch to 1 single crochet
