Double Sided Scarf

(click here for abbreviations)

materials:

size "I" hook
2 contrasting colors of yarn (I used Red Heart Soft White and Jewel Tone)

notes:

This pattern can be made to any size you would like, even an afghan. However, it will make a very thick, very heavy afghan. I don't recommend anything bigger than a small throw. Otherwise it will be very tiring to work on.

===>Always leave tails at the beginning and end of rows. DO NOT join colors. Instead, simply draw up next color for last yo of the last st in the row. These yarn tails will become the fringe on the finished piece.

starting with Row 2, all stitches will be through 2 loops

C1 = color 1
C2 = color 2

pattern:

with C1; chain to desired length
Row 1: with C2; half double crochet across
Row 2: with C1; chain 1, (half double crochet in front loops only of prev. half double crochet row, and in un-used loops of beg. chain) across
Row 3: with C2; chain 1, (half double crochet in front loops only of prev. half double crochet row, and in un-used loops of prev. row of same color
rep Row 3 alternating colors, until desired width
Final Row: working through 2 loops as in prev. rows, sc across
DO NOT finish off.
tie yarn tails in small groups (2 - 4) and trim to equal length to form fringe.
