Rosy Coaster or Doily

Sample on left is done with size 10 thread and a size "0"
hook.
Sample on right is done as patterns calls for, without contrasting border.
materials:
size '30' thread
size '8' hook
notes:
this pattern will also work well with size '10' thread and a size '0' hook
finished size with size '30' thread is nice for a coaster, with size '10' thread
pattern yields a roughly 5 1/2" doily
special instructions:
to make shell - 3 double crochet, chain 1 , 3 double crochet in next or specified space or stitch
pattern:
chain 10, join with slip stitch to form ring
Rnd 1: chain 3, 19 double crochet in ring, slip stitch to 3rd beginning
chain; 20 double crochet (beginning chain counts as
1st double crochet now and through out)
Rnd 2: chain 4, (double crochet, chain 1) in each double crochet around,
join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain; 20
chain-spaces
Rnd 3: slip stitch in chain-space, chain 3, 2 double crochet in same
chain-space, 3 double crochet in each chain-space around; 60 double crochet
Rnd 4: chain 5, (skip 1 double crochet, double crochet in next double
crochet, chain 2) around, join with slip stitch to
3rd beginning; 30 chain-spaces
Rnd 5: slip stitch in next chain-space, chain 3 , 2 double crochet in same
chain-space, chain 1, (3 double crochet in
next chain-space, chain 1) around, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain; 30
chain-spaces
Rnd 6: slip stitch in next 2 double crochet, slip stitch in chain-space, (chain 3, 2
double crochet) in same chain-space, chain
1, (3 double crochet, chain 1) in each chain-space around, join with slip stitch
to 3rd beginning chain
Rnd 7: slip stitch in next 2 double crochet, chain 1, (single crochet in
chain-space, work shell in next chain-space) around, slip stitch in 1st single
crochet, finish off
Optional Contrasting Border: join with single crochet to any double
crochet of Rnd 7, * single crochet in each double crochet
to chain-space, (single crochet, chain 7, single crochet) in chain-space rep
from * around, single crochet in any remaining double crochet, join with slip
stitch to 1st single crochet
finish off
weave in ends
