Dish Towel Border

materials:

Dish towel to be bordered
Lily Sugar and Cream 4 ply cotton yarn - Neptune (just 2oz or so)
tapestry needle (or sewing needle and thread to match towel)
size "J" hook

notes:

unless otherwise indicated, always work in both loops

to work shell: skip 2 double crochet, (3 double crochet, chain 1, 3 double crochet) in next double crochet, skip 2 double crochet, single crochet in next double crochet; shell completed

pattern:

with tapestry needle and cotton yarn, blanket stitch across short edge of towel to create 49 loops (or chain 49 loosely and use sewing needle and thread to attach to towel
Row 1: join with single crochet, single crochet across; 49 single crochet
Row 2: chain 3, turn (counts as 1st double crochet) double crochet across; 49 double crochet
Row 3: chain 1, turn, single crochet in 1st stitch, work 8 shells
finish off
weave in ends
