Easter Basket

materials:

size "I" hook
2 - 12" chenille stems
1 - 12" chenille stem cut into 4 equal sections (approx. 3")
yarn for basket - < 3 1/2 oz.
contrasting color(s) of yarn to weave through basket (4 - 12" strands, 28 - 24" strands)
small amount of fiber-fil or cotton
small amount of Easter grass (or yarn separated into individual ply's)

special instructions:

all joining at the end of rounds should be done with a slip stitch
slip stitch - insert hook where indicated, yarn over, draw through both loops at once
treble crochet - yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, draw up one loop, yarn over, (draw through 2 loops) 3 times

to work corner: (3 double crochet, chain 1, 3 double crochet) in chain-1 space

basket:

chain 3, join to 3rd chain from hook to make ring
Rnd 1: chain 3, 2 double crochet in chain-3 ring, chain 1, (3 double crochet in ring, chain 1) 3 times, join to 3rd chain; 4 chain-1 spaces
Rnd 2: chain 3, skip to chain-1 space, (work corner) 3 times, (3 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet) in next chain-1 space, join to 3rd chain; 8 chain-1 spaces
Rnd 3: slip stitch in neighboring space, chain 3, 2 double crochet in same space, (work corner, 3 double crochet in next space) 3 times, work corner, join to 3rd chain; 12 spaces
Rnd 4: chain 3, skip to next space, 3 double crochet in space, (work corner, {3 double crochet in next space} twice) 3 times, work corner, 2 double crochet in next space, join to 3rd chain
Rnd 5: slip stitch in neighboring space, chain 3, 2 double crochet in same space, 3 double crochet in next space, (work corner, {3 double crochet in next space} 3 times) 3 times, work corner, 3 double crochet in next space, join to 3rd chain
Rnd 6: chain 3, skip to next space, 3 double crochet in each space (including chain-1 spaces in corners) around to last space, 2 double crochet in last space, join to 3rd chain
Rnd 7: slip stitch in neighboring space, chain 3, 2 double crochet in same space, 3 double crochet in each space around, join with slip stitch to 3rd chain
Rnds 8 - 11: repeat Rnds. 6 & 7 twice
Rnd 12: repeat Rnd 6
Rnd 13: chain, sc in each double crochet around, join to chain 1
finish off
weave 24" strands of contrasting yarn through basket in desired pattern (4 strands in each Rnd)
use 3" piece of chenille stem in top of each basket corner to help keep shape

handle:

chain approx. 50
Row 1: triple crochet in 4th chain from hook, triple crochet across , chain 1, turn
Row 2: slip stitch across
finish off
weave 12" chenille stem through chain st
weave 2nd stem through slip stitch row
weave all 4 - 12" strands of contrasting color through triple crochet row
use stem ends to fasten handle to basket

finishing:

place approx. 1/2" - 1" of Poly-fil in bottom of basket
cover with Easter grass or yarn separated into individual plies
fill with Easter eggs and a chocolate bunny or other Easter goodies
