materials:

worsted weight yarn in two colors
    CA - accent color for center and border
    CB - background color
size "H" or "I" hook

notes:

initial cluster - chain 3, * yarn over, draw up a loop in same stitch, yarn over and draw through 2 loops, repeat from * twice, yarn over, draw through all loops on hook

cluster - * yarn over, draw up a loop in indicated stitch, yarn over and draw through 2 loops, rep from * 3 times, yarn over, draw through all loops on hook

corner - (3 double crochet, chain 1, 3 double crochet) in next space

pattern:

with CA, chain 4, join with slip stitch to form ring
Rnd 1: chain 1, 2 double crochet in same stitch & each stitch around, join with slip stitch to 1st beginning chain
Rnd 2: work initial cluster, chain 2, (work cluster, chain 2) in each single crochet around, join with slip stitch to 1st cluster, finish off

with CB,
Rnd 3: join with double crochet in any chain-2 space, 2 double crochet in same space, work corner, (3 double crochet in next space, work corner) around, join with slip stitch
Continue same as regular granny square until desired size.

Optional - complete last Rnd of square with same color as center
Finish off
Weave in ends.
