materials:

worsted weight yarn in two colors
    CA - accent color for center and border
    CB - background color
size "H" or "I" hook

notes:

initial cluster - ch 3, * yo, draw up a loop in same st, yo and draw through 2 loops, repeat from * 2x, yo, draw through all loops on hook

cluster - * yo, draw up a loop in indicated st, yo and draw through 2 loops, rep from * 3 times, yo, draw through all loops on hook

corner - (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next sp

pattern:

w/ CA, ch 4, join w/ sl st to form ring
Rnd 1: ch 1, 2 dc in same st & ea st around, join w/ sl st to 1st beg ch
Rnd 2: work initial cluster, ch 2, (work cluster, ch 2) in ea sc around, join w/ sl st to 1st cluster, finish off

w/ CB,
Rnd 3: join w/ dc in any ch-2 sp, 2 dc in same sp, work corner, (3 dc in next sp, work corner) around, join w/ sl st
Continue same as regular granny square until desired size.

Optional - complete last Rnd of square w/ same color as center
Finish off
Weave in ends.
