materials:

worsted weight yarn
size "J" hook

notes:

post double crochet - this stitch is worked around the post of the next stitch in previous row - yarn over, insert before next stitch, bring up on other side, yarn over, draw up a loop, complete same as regular double crochet

- I've found that depending on your yarn and personal crochet style, you may want to put (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in your corners.

pattern:

chain 7, join with slip stitch to form ring
Rnd 1: slip stitch in ring, chain 1, 12 single crochet in ring, join with slip stitch to 1st single crochet
Rnd 2: chain 3, (double crochet in next single crochet) 2x, chain 3 * (double crochet in next single crochet) 3x, chain 3, repeat from * 2x, join with s; stitch to 3rd beginning chain
Rnd 3: slip stitch around beginning chain of prev row, chain 3, 2 post double crochet, * (2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet) in corner chain-space, 3 post double crochet, repeat from * 2x, (2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet) in corner chain-space, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain
Rnd 4: slip stitch around beginning chain of prev row, chain 3, * post double crochet around each double crochet to corner, (double crochet, ch 1, double crochet) in corner chain-space, repeat from * 3x, post double crochet around each double crochet to beginning chain, join with slip stitch to 3rd beginning chain
Rnd 5-2nd last: repeat Rnd. 4 to desired size
Last Rnd: chain 1, single crochet in same stitch and in each stitch around, placing 3 single crochet in each corner chain-space
finish off
weave in ends
